The Creative Shoot
So back in the summer, a friend of mine and I were talking about the different types of creative photography we’d seen and she mentioned that we should do a “witchy-shoot”. Immediately I was intrigued and we both started doing research and checking different sources for inspiration material. After a week or two, we both had visions in our head of what we wanted and the session actually turned out so much better than what I imagined it would.
This led me to indulge my niche photography — creative/fantasy style!
The picture to the left was the brain child of my friend who said she wanted a picture of the witch reaching for or cradling the moon. We had actually completed the rest of the shoot and were on our way back to our cars when we realized we hadn’t taken that particular photo yet. Luckily there was a big bolder on the trail and the lighting was just right. I sat completely on the ground after situating her pose and we were able to capture this gorgeous image. I love all the subtle details from her crown to the flow of her hair and the soft darkness that makes the picture almost feel like a dream.
Along with the “witchy” shoot, we took a few more hours and also did the “Best Friends Bury a Body” and the “White Dress Goddess” sessions. We were able to knock out all 3 within about 5 hours. Everyone was absolutely exhausted the next day because what they don’t tell you is that photography is almost an extreme sport and modeling is HARD WORK!
Every creative session I do requires a lot of forethought for the details and overall feel of the shoot. Then comes execution day where the shoot happens - this involves travel, props, makeup, etc… and pray you didn’t forget something important at home! And last comes many, many hours of special FX editing at home. I’d say I spent about 2-3+ hours on each photo to get them to come out the exact way I wanted.
